The origin of the so-called 'bugs'

We have all heard of bugs: errors in software that prevent or disrupt its correct behavior. But how did this term come about? There is certainly not much relation between a bug and a problem. And although for some people there is, I am referring to other types of mishaps.

If you are just starting out in the world of programming and you are afraid of bugs, get ready. During its useful life, every program had, has, or will have some bugs that will make your day and remind you how happy you were when you made the decision to dedicate yourself to this and how little you regret it.

- ¡¡I can't see any insects in my code Alejandro!! ¿Why do you call them that?

In the field of computing, code errors were baptized as bugs in 1947 by a group of engineers at Harvard University. The computer they were working on, the Mark II, had a fault in a relay that prevented it from working properly.

There was a moth in there that, up to its antics, was preventing it from functioning properly. They took the moth and, in an act of supremacy and defiance, taped it to the system log (a log that was written on a sheet of paper).

First actual case of bug being found

Voilà, first debugging in history successfully completed. Bugs, as unpredictable as usual...
